As much as we would like it to, your standard 1" return filter just isn't enough to catch everything. The equipment gets dirty. There's no such thing as insulation being "okay" or "good". It's either at code requirement or below code requirement. Code for our service area is minimum of R-38 in the attic. This means about 13-15" worth of blown cellulose insulation above the ceiling. If you can see your ceiling joists, this is not up to code. Increasing your insulation level to R-38 will reduce your energy bill, allow your comfort system to run less & allow those hot and cold spots to be comfortable again in your home. 

The average duct system leaks about 30% of the conditioned air out through cracks and various connections within the duct system.
